The statue of Menes (or Narmer) dates back to the early period of ancient Egyptian history, believed to have been carved around 3100 B.C. Menes is considered the first king to unify Upper and Lower Egypt, founding the First Dynasty.  It was discovered in the ancient city of Narmar (also known as Palermo) in 1897 and is made of limestone. This statue is one of the oldest and most significant art pieces in Egyptian history, reflecting the political and social transformations of the time. It is currently displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, serving as a symbol of Egyptian unity. The story of this statue illustrates how King Menes contributed to establishing Egypt as a powerful centralized state, impacting Egyptian history for centuries to come.
